Nine Hills to Nambonkaha Two Years in the Heart of an African Village Sarah Erdman 9780805073812 Books

I love, love, love this book! It's exactly what I was looking for. I've been to Cote d'Ivoire twice in the past 6 months. After my first trip, I'd been trying to find anything I could on the mysticism, culture, language and people. I couldn't find much more than the history of The Crises, which, I know, this country is way more rich than just political instability. I'm so grateful to Ms. Erdman for her beautiful, humble, mystical account of her time there. I've been trying to learn more, and this is THE most perfect book for me in my journey. Thank you so much for this. It's helping me to understand this country more

Nine Hills to Nambonkaha Two Years in the Heart of an African Village Sarah Erdman 9780805073812 Books Reviews

This is a great book for any future Peace Corps volunteer. It provides insight into the entire experience of being a volunteer.
Nice read, reminds me of my time living in Kenya (this takes place in West Africa, Ivory Coast).
This book is actually really good so far. I bought it for a class and am being forced to read it, so far so good.
It was interesting to read how other people live and what is important to them. I do think that the writing could have been better, smoother, as it moved from one area to another. I kept imagining what it was like and do admire Sarah for volunteering.
Fantastic book if you want to truelly understand West-African culture. Well written. The writer takes you as a silent companion with her through her experiences, showing everything about village life.
I thought this book gave a great insight into a West African village as a Public Health volunteer. I am a future PCV headed to Guinea and greatly appreciated the first hand knowledge of a PCVs time in their village. The author expressed things she loved about Nambonkaha and things that she didn't love. The book felt honest and true to a PCVs service.
I will recommend this book to anyone that is interested in the life of a PCV that learned to live with and love the people of her assigned village for two years.
I hope she will always be able to stay in touch with her friends there and possibly return to visit someday.
Because of this book, I feel that I have been there when I see and read the poor reporting on our media.
