Convergence Journey to Nyorfias Book 1 eBook Terry Roy
I really liked this book. It has everything you would want in this genre. There are the invading aliens trying to take over worlds for natural resources, bases and slaves. On this world there are the military, the resistance and the citizens to fight back. One member of the special forces is Sergeant Rett. She and her team have been so successful at fighting, the aliens have placed huge bounties on them. While this is going on Rett is mysteriously ego merged with Pam, a woman from earth, a process that lets each woman hear the other's thoughts. In the mean time, one of the aliens has fallen in love with Rett. There is pain and loss in the team's life, it is a war, but this book also has love and respect between team members, between sisters and maybe between two soldiers from opposing sides. If you like a kick butt heroine, military action and a little romance, pick this up. I can't wait to read book two.Tags : Convergence: Journey to Nyorfias, Book 1 - Kindle edition by Terry Roy. Convergence Journey to Nyorfias Book 1 eBook Terry Roy Reviews
Though Convergence Journey to Nyorfias is the first book in a trilogy, it definitely works as a stand-alone. Sergeant Rett, the main character, is the kind of kick-ass heroine that's so popular now, but she also reminded me of Balsa, the heroine of the anime series Moribito Guardian of the Sacred Spirit. Like Balsa, Rett is stoic, strong, highly moral, and carries inner conflict that keeps her from being too perfect.
Anyone who likes adventure, science fiction, strong female characters and interesting new worlds will love this story.
I'm changing my rating after 're- reading this story. I think the first time I must have been distracted. This is a little hard to get into, but on second pass, it is really a great character driven story and the characters are really well developed. The subtle nuances with Rett and Pam are so well delivered it makes me want that kind of relationship. I can't wait to see what's next. I feel a sense of ownership to the characters and have gone beyond suspension of disbelief into immersion.
The author does a great job developing the primary character, Sergeant Rett who is a special forces platoon leader. She is a successful combat leader that has seen many years of fighting in defending the world from an alien invasion. The difference in this plot is the Sergeant gets an unwanted alien consciousness that mingles with her personality. This alien is from the world earth and was put in Rett's mind by another alien. In short, the story is entertaining but I got tired of the internal conversations. For the most part the earth conscious character was uninteresting and the author could of replaced it with a physical character. The combat elements of the story were 5* but this implanted mind character just did not work for me.
I found this little gem via 's "Recommended For You." It's a bit off the well trod path of SciFi "Action" books which made it a bit difficult to get into. Once I was past the first few chapters though, the story was very well paced with a good balance of the various storytelling elements to keep it from being too predictable. The one thing that kept it from being a 5☆ book for me were that there were enough grammatical errors that it threw me off at times.
All in all, I recommend this book to those who are looking for something different. Additionally, it should be okay for older teens (violence and some situations requiring a reasonable level of maturity).
Finally, I want to commend the author for handling the romance in this novel at what I consider to be the right level; leaving the details of the encounters to the reader's imagination.
I do like the idea of two minds sharing the same body and the conflicts which go on that. The two of them did get in each other's way a lot, there was no harmony or respect at the beginning ('I did not invite you here', 'I did not ask to be here')and it was enough to keep my interest. There were lots of action scenes and they were not OTT, people got injured, died, there was happiness, sadness, brutality....you got a good picture of a tight military team working hard to save each other. I was not sure about the discussion among the Gods about their empires and changing the odds for one side over the other. Having read a number of female heroine books I was quite prepared not to like this one (they can't all be good) but this one worked.
The best thing I can say is I bought book 2 immediately and started reading it - roll on book 3.
